Day 01: Arrival in Seetha Eliya – Sita Amman Temple & Evening Rituals

Begin your journey in the cool highlands of Seetha Eliya with a visit to the Sita Amman Temple—believed to be where Sita was held captive by Ravana. Walk through the serene temple grounds, participate in candlelit evening prayers, and gain insights into local rituals linked to the epic.

Take a short scenic journey to Ravana Falls, tied to the legend of Ravana’s secret passageways. Enjoy a refreshing dip in the natural pools beneath roaring cascades, followed by a gourmet picnic in the shadow of the falls. Optional nature hike for the adventurous.

Drive westward to the coastal town of Puttalam to visit the Munneswaram Temple—where Lord Rama is said to have prayed to Lord Shiva after defeating Ravana. Participate in a traditional puja and blessing ceremony to seek strength, forgiveness, and spiritual clarity.

Continue north to Manavari to visit the sacred Manavari Temple, where Rama is believed to have installed the first Shiva Lingam (Ramalingam). In the evening, unwind with a heritage Ayurveda ritual at a serene spa, focusing on inner balance and renewal.

Arrive at Trincomalee to explore Koneswaram Temple, perched dramatically on a cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean. This ancient sanctuary is steeped in Ramayana lore and Hindu tradition. Join in guided chants and witness panoramic views that evoke divine presence.

Return to the highlands to explore Hakgala Botanical Gardens—believed to be the historical Ashok Vatika, the royal garden where Sita was kept under watch. Enjoy a guided heritage walk among exotic blooms, followed by a traditional tea tasting and highland hospitality.

Head to Divurumpola Temple, the legendary site of Sita’s Agni Pariksha (trial by fire). Absorb the quiet intensity of the site, and in the evening, witness a serene light ceremony filled with reverence and symbolism.

Stop at the multi-tiered Ramboda Falls for a refreshing poolside dip. Continue to Nuwara Eliya and enjoy the afternoon at leisure, perfect for a quiet walk, spa session, or lakeside tea under the misty highland skies.

Venture to Dolukanda, said to be a fragment of the mythical Sanjeevani Mountain dropped by Hanuman. Trek to the cave shrine, marvel at sweeping jungle views, and take part in a sunset ritual that pays homage to ancient healing and sacrifice.

Transfer to Colombo for your departure. If time allows, visit a local temple or enjoy a final meal reflecting on the powerful legends and experiences gathered on this epic journey.

Spend the day at leisure, take a stroll along the lagoon, explore the local market, or relax by the pool at your hotel as you prepare for the exciting adventure ahead.

After breakfast, head inland to the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, a sanctuary dedicated to the care of orphaned and injured elephants. Watch the gentle giants bathe in the river and roam freely in their natural habitat. Continue your journey to the Cultural Triangle, arriving in Sigiriya. In the evening, settle in at your hotel amidst the tranquil surroundings of this UNESCO-listed region, home to one of Sri Lanka’s most awe-inspiring landmarks.

Begin your day with an early morning climb of Sigiriya Rock Fortress, also known as Lion Rock. As the sun rises, marvel at the panoramic views and the ancient frescoes, water gardens, and architectural mastery carved into the rock itself. After descending, enjoy breakfast before heading to the sacred city of Anuradhapura. This ancient capital, filled with colossal dagobas, centuries-old Bodhi trees, and crumbling monasteries, offers a deeply spiritual and historical experience. Return to Sigiriya for your overnight stay.

Today’s journey begins with a visit to the Dambulla Cave Temple—Sri Lanka’s best-preserved cave temple complex. Explore the richly painted caves adorned with Buddha statues and intricate murals. Continue southward through lush landscapes and spice gardens en route to Kandy. Upon arrival, take in the scenic beauty of this lakeside city, the last royal capital of Sri Lanka. In the evening, witness a traditional cultural dance performance followed by a visit to the revered Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.

After breakfast, travel through rolling hills and mist-covered valleys to the central highlands. Along the way, stop at Ramboda to admire its cascading waterfalls. Continue to Nuwara Eliya, affectionately known as “Little England” for its colonial architecture, temperate climate, and emerald tea plantations. Tour a working tea estate to see how Ceylon tea is made, walk through beautifully manicured gardens, and take in the serene atmosphere of this charming hill town.

This morning, board the scenic train from Nanu Oya to Ella—considered one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world. Wind through tea plantations, pine forests, and misty mountain passes as you soak in breathtaking views. Upon arrival in the laid-back village of Ella, check in and explore its rustic beauty—perhaps with a short hike to Little Adam’s Peak or a visit to the famous Nine Arches Bridge.

Leave the highlands behind and descend into the southeastern plains as you travel to Yala, home to Sri Lanka’s most famous national park. Depending on your arrival time, enjoy an optional evening safari through the park’s varied ecosystems. Keep an eye out for elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, exotic birds, and if you’re lucky, the elusive Sri Lankan leopard. Alternatively, take the evening to relax at your jungle lodge and prepare for an early morning adventure.

Rise early for a thrilling morning safari in Yala National Park, the best time to spot wildlife in action. With experienced naturalists guiding your jeep through the bush, this promises to be a memorable encounter with Sri Lanka’s raw natural beauty.
